I have wished for so long. How I wish for you. Today.
Honestly, I don’t know what to say today. I’m exhausted being sad. It’s draining, emotionally, physically, mentally. Every day is the same thing. The same empty dining room. The same quiet lunch. The same horrible news on tv and in the paper. Would it be so horrible if we had something to be happy about for just a day?
Michael Che, a comedian and writer for Saturday Night Live lost his grandmother just over a week ago in NYC. In her spirit and memory he is paying the rent for all 160 apartments in the public housing building she lived in. What a wonderful human. He is people helping people.
Justin Verlander and his wife Kate Upton are sending 25,000 masks to the Detroit police department for them and to distribute to the communities in need. Touchless thermometers, face shields for the police. What wonderful humans. They are people helping people.
Jeff Bezos is donating 100 million dollars to us food banks through the non profit Feeding America. How many meals, how many loaves of bread, how many gallons of milk to children does the equal? It’s inspiring. What a wonderful human. He is people helping people.
An awesome friend of mine sent me a link yesterday to a segment on CBS this morning. It was about restaurants across the country who are stepping up and feeding the communities around them. It’s about taking profitability out of the equation, and putting the needs of others first. Eleven Madison Park is a former number one rated restaurant in the world. The chef has turned it into a community kitchen. Through a local nonprofit and other restaurants, they are now feeding between five and seven thousand meals a day for free. What a wonderful human. He is people helping people.
I’m blessed to be in a position that I can help this community. And when I get down on myself stories like these help. People rise in the face of fear. They stand up and make a difference. It might be food, or laundry, or shelter, or a bouquet of flowers, all these and more can brighten up the day of someone who needs it more than I do. People helping people. It’s just the right thing to do.
Today’s quote comes from my friend Ed.
Sometimes you just need someone to say. It’s okay. It’s okay.
