After all this time….  always.

First thing’s first.  I miss you.  Second thing’s second.  Chicken dumpling soup today, I’ve got about 60ish cups that will be ready for you at 11am.  I cannot express how much I miss having soup everyday.  We had to make a decision back in March, we had to slim down the menu, we had to sacrifice things that you love to eat here at the deli so that we could still be here when covid was over.   Well, that garbage still isn’t over, but sometimes I just want to do something nice for you.  Be it soup, or cookies, a little note of support…. we are fighting for survival here, but today soup wins because like I said, I miss you.

I don’t think any of us were prepared for this. Mentally, socially, emotionally, physically, any "ly" that I forgot.  Trying to figure out school, how to remote teach, how to educate our children how to social distance, how to wear a mask all day.  Kids are resilient though, and I’m damn proud of how mine are handling the chaos.  Adults, well we’re a bit more stubborn and set in our ways.  We like what we like, and have a routine that we have been following for decades.  And yet, here we are, wearing our masks.  Be it at Meijer, Max and Emily’s, Summit Smokehouse, or the local gas station.  And here at the deli, you all are behaving yourselves.  Not moving tables, wearing the mask, being kind to those around you and staying away.  Good job adults.

We’re still here.  Monday through Sunday from 11-2.   We are still doing online ordering.   Were still doing pickups.  The city still has the street closed down so guests can enjoy the outside.  Some places have closed, some are about to reopen, some are trying to stay open, some are just terrified.  I get it, I look at the numbers for hours every evening.  Keep fighting the good fight.  Keep fighting for yourself.  Keep fighting for your guests.  Believe in hope.  Think of what my friend Thomas said: “The darkest hour is just before the dawn.”

Today’s quote comes from my friend Lauren.

If ever I try to push you away

You can just keep me. Tell me

Tell me tell me, you'll meet me

Tell me tell me, you'll keep me

Tell me tell me, you'll meet me

Will you meet me more than halfway?
