Anything to make you smile. It is a better part, of you to admire.
I was driving into work last night when a PJ song I hadn’t heard in a while came on. It’s called Man of the Hour. I was in Seattle in October of ‘03 when the band surprised the crowd with it. It was a new song, that frankly none of us were expecting to hear. It’s a beautiful song that has changed meaning to me over the years. Now it reminds me of Timmy.
I miss my friend. I wonder what he’s doing up there. Grilling out on the patio of heaven for people walking by. Playing a round of golf on heaven’s greatest golf course perhaps. Having a cup of coffee with the new morning coffee crew. Watching family and friends, keeping an eye on what’s happening down here with us.
I talk to him often, ask his advice for this life on earth. Somedays he answers in the ways that I believe. Sometimes he just listens to my word vomit. I have questions about what we’re doing, where we’re going, is this right or is this wrong. No one ever said that life is supposed to be fair, it’s not. It’s supposed to be hard, it’s supposed to be easy at times too. Cannot enjoy joy, without sorrow. As my friend Ed says “it’s an art to live with pain, mix the light into grey.”
I guess I just miss my friend.
Today’s quote from my friend Ed.
And the road, the old man paved
The broken seems along the way
The rusted signs, left just for me
He was guiding me, love, his own way
