Sunday thoughts:

ugh.  It’s hard to sleep at night.  I have always had some issues with sleep, trying to close the mind and let the body recover.  Often I’ll just lay there for hours, unable to close it off.  Work an 18 hour day, be exhausted and then lay in bed for hours because the mind won’t shut down.  Now we’re all out here working from home, working at the deli, and it’s not work that keeps us up at night it’s the fear of tomorrow.  The fear of Elsa singing into the unknown that sings loud in our heads.  I watched Frozen II again last night, did I cry....absolutely.  Thanks Disney.

And then I drive into work and watch the moon in the sky and my mind can wander to past times.  To hopeful times. Times when I would look up to the sky and imagine, dream of this mystical place 238 thousand miles away.  In the 60s we reached for it and we touched it.  We believed in great things because we believe in great things. This great white and grey circle in the sky is there for me every morning.  I look up to her.  I greet her with the awesome smile of the day.  Sometimes she’s orange and a small sliver coming over the horizon followed by the reds and purples and yellows of the morning sunshine.  And another day awaits us all.  I adore you.

Some comments on what’s happening with People Helping People today.  I can’t say I expected the feedback about my post yesterday, I just write words.  I just make sandwiches.  I just feed good food to good people.  So bizarre to me that you all read my thoughts, but apparently you do.  I’m grateful that you shared this with a friend in need, a colleague in need, or yourself who is in need.  That’s what we need, it’s what I need.  I can carry you, I can carry your weight.

There will be meals available today from 11-5 for anyone who needs it.  A core part of our PHP program is that you the guest maintain your dignity.  We don’t judge, we don’t look down on you, you are a guest in our home and will be treated as such.   Everyone needs help from time to time, and today we are here to help you.  Whether you are paying or not, you are our guest.   I talked with several people yesterday who said we know someone who could use this, please remind them today.  We want to help.   I want to help.  If you can’t afford a meal, one will be provided for you.  If you are worried that you can’t afford a meal later this week, come get one today for free.  Let’s all worry about tomorrow, tomorrow.   The moon will greet us and be a shining light.

Please, one per person.  Use the honor system.  Let’s continue to take care of each other.  After all, were just people helping people.

Today’s quote from Tyler Childers:

Hold me close my dear

Sing your whispering song

Softly in my ear

And I will sing along…
