Summer Concert Series

It is our great pleasure to announce the 2017 Max & Emily’s Summer Concert Series and to share some exciting changes.  All shows this year will begin with an opening act taking the stage at 6:00pm, followed by our headliner.  If you would like to be one of our opening acts, please email for more information.

Here’s the 2017 Max & Emily’s Summer Concert Series lineup – can’t wait to see you!

Thursday, June 29

The Series opens with West Texas native Brandon Ray who will bring his “one part country, one part rock n’ roll” to our stage for the first time.  Since moving to Nashville, Brandon has spent several years honing his craft while opening for such bands as Brett Eldredge and Taylor Swift.  In September of 2016, Rolling Stone called him one of the 10 new country artists that you need to know about. We agree.

A 2016 Series fan favorite, Kelley Hunt, of Kansas City, makes her return to Mt. Pleasant.  With her soulful blues style, Kelley is bringing along a horn section to add to her already deep stage sound.  With stage presence and the vocals to back it up, Kelley filled downtown Mt. Pleasant with a style and enthusiasm usually reserved for big arena shows.  The consummate performer, we are thrilled to welcome her back to Max & Emily’s.

Thursday, July 20

In January of this year we received a phone call from Saucecats Washboard specialist Perry English to discuss playing a show this summer.  Perry talked about the love the band has for the Max & Emily’s Summer Concert Series and the thousands of fans that have embraced them over the years from our stage.  Their winning style of inviting little kids to play the washboard in front of the stage, the conga line that never ends, and the horn section taking stock of the crowd from out in the crowd has endeared them to our city.  It has been a magical experience for them, for us, and for the fans.  The Saucecats will play their last show ever from our stage this summer.  Perry mentioned, as early as in March, that the band has several special surprises their July show.  This will be a night to remember.

Thursday, August 17

With their incredible rock music, as well as songs written especially for kids, Michigan’s very own Verve Pipe will be back on our stage in August.  Since their last performance in Mt. Pleasant, they have released a new children’s album, Are We There Yet? as well as two rock albums, Overboard and Villains – Live & Acoustic.  Lead singer Brian Vander Ark and his bandmates are currently out on the road in support of the 20th anniversary of their platinum selling album, Villains.

Along with Mt. Pleasant Parks and Recreation staff, members of Verve Pipe will visit with PEAK students earlier in the day. Using hands on teaching examples, our students will have a great time making music with the Verve Pipe!

Saturday, August 26

CMU’s very own Joe Hertler and the Rainbow Seekers return to finish out an eclectic year of music.  Last year downtown was packed for their debut with young and old dancing until the darkness came, singing along, swaying along, and thirsty for more.  Currently out in support of their third album, Pluto, on a national club tour from Seattle to Brooklyn, they are playing the same venues where the likes of Pearl Jam, John Mayer, The Grateful Dead, and Journey all played early in their careers.  No one can describe his music better than Joe, “For us, each song on this record embodies a loose and unique feeling about what it’s like to be a human in this world. More than anything else, we hope some of those feelings get through to you.”

We are thankful to Central Michigan University, Isabella Bank, Downtown Mt. Pleasant, and Max & Emily’s whose continued support allows us to provide first class family entertainment with no cost to our community. If you have an opportunity to thank them, we hope you will.  See you at the shows!
